ποΈ What the job does
One of three at-large members of Louisiana's Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), appointed by the governor with Senate consent. BESE oversees public elementary and secondary education: its elected and appointed members supervise the state's public schools and special schools and control the state funds appropriated for them, though not the business affairs of local school boards. The board has eleven members serving four-year terms matched to the governor's term, limited to about two and a half terms in three consecutive terms. Next appointment: January 2028, when the next governor's term begins.
